CTH (formerly CTHCM) was formed in 1982 by a panel of industry professionals and service academics to provide recognised standards of training for the hotel and travel industries. The resultant syllabi equip students with marketable skills and established professional qualifications, plus the opportunity to progress through the academic system to honours degree level and beyond.

Many of the overseas students who enrol on hotel management courses come from developing countries which depend heavily on tourism. These students come to London to learn their trade because they know that most hotel groups have a preference for managers who have undergone training overseas.
